Joshua Loren Branstetter

Joshua Loren Branstetter is a purple belt and kids’ coach at 10th Planet Costa Mesa. Before stepping onto the jiu jitsu mats, Josh cut his teeth in the wrestling room - starting in 8th grade and going on to compete all four years on the varsity team at Orange Lutheran High School, serving as captain his junior and senior seasons; building the foundation of discipline, tenacity, and personal responsibility that still defines him as a martial artist today.

Now a regular on the competition circuit - JJWL, ADCC Trials, NAGA, IBJJF - Josh brings the lessons of high-level competition experience straight into his classes. His game emphasizes fundamentals that win under pressure: sharp guard retention, positional dominance, heavy and intelligent pressure, and quick, reliable escapes.

As a coach, Josh is driven by faith, resilience, and servant leadership. On the mats, that means focused drilling, precise feedback, and daily progress that adds up. Off the mats, it means mentoring kids and teammates with the same energy he brings to competition. His mission is simple: teach practical jiu jitsu that builds confidence, skill, and character - rep by rep, day by day.
